Charging
EV electricity plans in Victoria compared (October 2026)
Short answer: if you charge overnight, the cheapest published Victorian EV rate we found is 4.5c/kWh from midnight to 6am on OVO Energy's EV Plan (OVO), followed by AGL's Night Saver EV at 8c/kWh in the same window (AGL). If your car is home in the middle of the day, several plans offer free electricity from 11am to 3pm. Daily supply charges and rates outside the window matter as much as the EV rate, so compare the whole bill, not just the headline.

Don't forget the rest of the bill
A cheap EV window can be offset by higher rates at other times. For example, OVO lists its EV Plan with a peak rate of 32.934c/kWh and a supply charge of 143.077c a day (OVO pricing). Before switching:
- check your current daily supply charge and peak rate on your bill;
- estimate how much of your home's usage falls outside the cheap window;
- note any daily caps (for example 30 kWh or 50 kWh) and whether controlled-load hot water is excluded.
What a charge costs
OVO assumes an EV uses about 20 kWh per 100 km (OVO). On that figure:
| Rate | Cost per 100 km |
|---|---|
| 0c/kWh (free window) | A$0 |
| 4.5c/kWh | A$0.90 |
| 8c/kWh | A$1.60 |
| 32.934c/kWh (OVO EV Plan peak) | about A$6.59 |
On a novated lease, you can claim home charging at the ATO rate of 5.47c/km whatever you pay; see claiming home charging on a novated lease. For more on timing, read the best time to charge your EV at home, or use our charging cost calculator.
Do you need a wall charger?
Not to use these plans. AGL, for example, says no dedicated charger is needed. A smart charger or your car's app makes it easy to start charging inside the window; see how to choose a home EV charger and what installation costs. Current charger offers are on our deals page, and you can run lease numbers in our novated lease calculator.
